Biography

Johanna PaasJohanna Paas is an Associate Professor of Printmaking within the Department of Art and Design at Central Michigan University. She received her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Michigan, K -12 teaching certification from Eastern Michigan University and her Master of Fine Arts degree from Louisiana State University. Following graduation she taught courses at Grand Valley State University in Grand Rapids, and in 2002 began her tenure at CMU.

Johanna is an active member of professional print organizations including the Mid-America Print Council. She currently serves as membership chairperson for the Mid-America Print Council. In recent years, she has conducted a variety of workshops at national conferences, and artist communities around the nation.

Her artwork has been exhibited in over fifty national invitational and juried exhibitions. Working with a variety of printing methods and materials, she creates mixed media prints. The images balance between representation and abstraction, referencing both the micro and macrocosms that create our world. Her method of working in components/parts, which comprise a whole, in many ways mimics the relationship that we as individuals have to the larger, universal whole.
